The worry is not about conversions as such, but to the way and objectives. Most conversions are politically flavoured. Is it what people asked for, or is it more public relations beneficial for the converters?

I agree, that modernism has brought many goodies, but equally bad situations. Internet is gradually taking the place in western Europe and America of real contacts. Information exchange doesn't mean that the communication faculty is satisfied. What people lack more and more in western countries is real/live contact. Even the simple touch of a hand, etc. will become more and more a rarity, not to speak of fresh air.
The environment is deteriorating with the toxic belt increasing, not to speak of the atmospheric changes.
The (wellfare) diseases are still without proper medicines: cancer, heartattack, aids...
People with the means are material addicts, buying unnecessary goods praised by advertisements, while people are dying without any means. The gap is huge. But at least people without means have some positive dreams, the people with means are losing simplicity and natural behavior.

In short, adaptability seems to be out of range with our modernity. Technological and organizational complexity is overdeveloped. Time has become a tight, crucial factor.
The physical needs are overemphasized, but what to say about spiritual needs? There's not enough space for that.
