You're right that the topic is about Christianity, not about targeting them. And not speaking in generalizations about them.
I think that what is actually targeted is not Christianity in general, but the missionary activities of certain Christian sects, Jesuites in particular. The reformation and contra-reformation produced some harsh targeting within Christianity itself, leading to mass persecutions of other sects, like cathars, templars, huguenots, etc. The free and mystical movements were counterattacked by the contra-reformation, with huge consequences for the colonies of the pope-centered and non-pope-centered catholicism. And that is exactly what here's talked about: the effects of European developments on colonized countries, with sometimes very destructive results, leading to the summing up (sometimes objectively sometimes subjectively) here of what happened.

About conversions
I don't think every Christian is happy that they became one. Latin America has had mass conversions, not done very peacefully. Northern America neither, nor Africa, nor anywhere else. A few monks were so kind to note something on their cultures, but not always in an unbiased way, and for sure to understand what and how to destroy theirs. The jesuits were again the foremosts amongst the sects to be active in this way.
