Dear Vinaire, What Paul did to get the attention of the Romans is because he was a collaborator. Paul as Saul came from a more Greek influenced cosmopolitan culture. There's a theological journalist (N. Wilson) who sees in Malchus, who arrested Jesus, the person of Saul. Now Malch-us comes from Melech/Melekh (like Malik meaning king). And the very name of Saul is the name of the first king of Israel. If Saul-Paul was responsible for the arrest of Jesus (as a collaborator) it would give some explanation to the almost schizophrenic obsession of Saul with Jesus: why he sometimes calls himself a person unfit, and sometimes as the first Christian, the foremost chosen one. Only after Jesus being cruxified and meeting a 'resurrected' Jesus did Saul become a Christian, renamed as Paul (a Greek-Roman name?). All Paul had to do was to recast the tradition and remove the suspicion of his involvement. That was partly done, because the Jesus movement was checked by the Romans and collaborating Jewish aristocracy. And partly by taking the lead in the Jesus movement. The temple of Jerusalem (Yerushalayim) was destroyed by the Romans, Peter's community was checked in Syria. The students of Paul, like Luke became the dominant gospel writers. (That Paul died eventually through Roman hands, was maybe that the befriended Roman group were no longer in power and was supplanted by hostile Romans) Maria Magdalena Another interesting point is that Maria Magdalena claimed the body of Jesus. She was present at his 'death'. Now that is a Jewish custom, still prevalent, that only a wife cn claim the body of her husband. So Jesus was in all probability married....to maria Magdalena. About Judas Iskariot He was till the arrest the most trusted of Jesus' group. Actually no one knew more about the very secret acts of Jesus than Judas (Yahuda). Many people don't believe Judas to be a traitor at all. (Is it part of a recast of Paul?). The very name of Judas or Yahuda stands for the word Jew in a strict tribal sense. (While Jesus and most of his group were Galileans). It was a very significant act to name Judas as traitor and condemn the Jews or Judeans for the murder of Jesus. In that way no one would suspect the collaborators. Strangely enough the direct responsible persons were the Romans. But they're depicted everwhere in the New Testament with care and courtiously. No, it was not the fault of Pontius Pilate, who washed his hands with water (purifying act to wash all the bad deeds and responsibilities away), according to the gospels. Isn't that very strange? Generally speaking I think N. Wilson and more researchers of the alternative school of interpretation might be right that Paul and his followers have done much pain to obscure the events and make the good the bad and vice versa. About a fictional Jesus Of course Jesus was a historical person, mentioned by almost contemporary historians. But the way the NT has depicted him is contradictory in the many layered NT. About my favorites Haha, none of the western philosophers. I think western philosophers have to learn a lot from Indian philosophers. Western philosophy went the wrong way when they lost the Socratesion philosophy, which was nearer to Indian. My favorites are female Rishis like Grgii, Itar Ktyyanii, Maitryanii, Apl, Ghosh and male Rishis like Nachiketas Gautama, king Janaka, Yjnavalkya, the humble but great Satyakma Jbla, Vysa Vasishtha, Krshna Vsudeva Ydava, Shankarchrya, etc. But also great personalities like the queen of Jhansi or Shivaji who had practised the philosophies of KarmaYoga. India has a lot of great philosophers, too much to mention, but these are the ones that came to my mind immediately. I hope India will not copy too much from western philosophy, though it is already happening there's a great revival not to do that. Western technology is an advanced body, but it misses the Indian Atman. And Indian people must not forget what (their) Atman is: their heart is their heritage, purified from outer accusational penalties and inner obstructional traffic jams. |
