Dear WiseFoolForum,

I can understand your stand in defending Hinduism. The social oriented part in me has also the same attitude. To me Hinduism is very dear. I'm more comfortable with Sanskrit and Hinduism. Sanskrit words, which are not solid words for me, but dynamic ones, with a very powerful lively impact and meaning. Especially when in every word the rootmeanings are shining and are giving us the very essence. The secondary meanings are just a ritual stage of looking at the words, more of static (historical evolved) nature.


About the quoted verse:

"So akamayata bhuyasa yajnena bhuyo yajeyeti,
so asatramyat sa tapo-atapyata; tasya shrantasya yasho
viryamudacramat, prana vai yasho viryam; tatpraneshutcranteshu
shariram shvayitumadhriyata;
tasya sharira eva mana asit"

He desired, "Let me sacrifice more richly with richer sacrifice". He laboured and put forth heat
of force, and of him thus laboured and headed splendour and strenght came forth.
The life-forces are the splendour and strenght, therefore when the life-foces go forth, the body set
about to rot, yet in his body even so mind was.

The translation is of the great philosopher and Veda(nta=Upanishad)-specialist Shri Aravindo Ghosha, which is very good. I'll provide a word for word translation:

So (He) akamayata (desired) bhuyasa (richer) yajnena (through sacrifice) bhuyo (richly) yajeyeti (that there will be sacrificed: in optative),
so (he) asatramyat (laboured) [and] sa (he) tapo-atapyata (put forth heat of force);
tasya (of him) shrantasya (labouring: actually a genitive absolute, giving an adverbial translation) yasho (splendour, valour) viryam (strenght) udacramat (came forth), prana (life-force) vai (emphatic particle) [are] yasho (splendour) [and] viryam (strenght);
tat (therefore) praneshu (in the lifeforces) utcranteshu (coming forth: both are a locative absolute, becoming in translation adverbial)
shariram (the body) shvayitum (to rotten, to decay: infinitive) adhriyata (was set forth);
tasya (of his) sharira (the body) eva (like, even, thus) mana (mind) asit (was)".

Here's describes the creation concept out of K�ma with Tapas. The Upanishadic concept of S�gunika Purusha and Prakrti are represented through Yashas and Viiryam. Pr�na (from pra=forth and an=to breathe) is the third principle which stand for Jiiv�tman which is a flavour of Yashas and Viiryam.
