Tanm�tras �������� literally merely (m�tra) that (tat) doesn't give us a clue. Or tat = Pr�krtika reality so is the subtle cause of solid matter. They are the subtle sensory elements which are subtler than the sth�la. Their qualities are r�pa, rasa, etc. and the subtle sensory system is the Pr�nendriya. I just named that system also Tanmatra, because the qualities are near to faculty of sensing them) rasa ����������. which can be tasted gandha ���������. which can be smelled salila ����������. jala=fluid (pre/proto-) Plasmatic matter ? k�rana ������� causal (body or matter) Chitta �������. that which is conscious from chit (param)anu �����proto-atomic Pr�tibhas ������intuitive faculty, very subtle indriyas tejas ��������heat bh�ta �������.. that which is manifest = elements or aggregate What is significant in every creation story is that it begins with heat. That heat is really manifest in the Vyakti or Individual stage, where out of the Cosmic Vyakta Mahat evolves the Individual. With this Individual we have a burst into many Chitta's as Vyashti (Individuals). The Pr�krtika has from the Cosmic Mah�Pr�na (energy) the Paramanu as causal matter. This Paramanu is in the causal stage confronted with heat. In the subtle or s�kshma these Paramanus become subtle matter and in the sth�la become solid matter. I believe the subtle stage to be of (proto)plasmatic fluid matter. The indriyas with which these can be known are also known as Pr�nendriya in the system of Shri Gorakhnath in his Goraksha Vachana-Sangraha. This alone makes the subtle stage something of subtle Pr�na which is another word for fluid plasma I believe out of which the mineral world is created. (Our dreams are also of this material, for our dreams are in this dimension). If Heat of the causal stage is from where the perceivable creation has started than modern science has a long way to go.
