Dear Vinaire,

The words para means beyond. Para-ma (superlative) means most beyond = ultimate.

The word jiiva is from the root jiiv = to live. Jiiva is (Prakrtic ) life. You can never say that Purusha has Jiiva, only the biological (matter-involved) Prakrti and Jivatman have Jiiva = bios, etymologically from the same root jiiv or an extinct giiva which gave biiva=bio, like Go=older Gau gave the word bou.s. (I wonder whether the word Go comes from a root meaning 'to give life or to shine vitally'. This word could be applied to the Sun, Earth and even cow)
