Asuras belong to a remoter civilization. Almost all the older names in the RigVeda are Asu-ras. With older is meant the pre-Vrtran Era. Indra initiated the Mnava Era. Yama was the last pre-Glacial emperor and his brother 'Manu' Vaivasvata (the first of which Svarni and the last most probably Ksupa, the father of Ikshvku)) the first inter-Glacial.

Note
As Vaivasvata was the 7th Manu (obviously a royal/imperial title) he was named just 'Manu". Actually we do know only one Vaivasvata, and that is Yama (meaning the 'Twin"), the son if Vivasvant Srya and Sharany. The 8th "Manu" is called Svarni, the son of Vivasvant and Chhy.

The Yakshas and Rkshasa live actually in the same 'chatic' period of the Plavana or Deluge, and are children of the two brothers Heti and Praheti. The Yakshas bear the royal title "Kubera' and the Rkshasas mainly 'Rvana" (there were more than one: one lived in the time of Arjuna Krttaviirya, one soem time after Diliipa I, and one still later during Rma.

Asu-ra ( Powefrul) was gradually changed in A-Sura (non-God) as Deva was changed into dae-m-on still later in some communities.
