Re: A question on "YUGAS" or "AGES" or Cycles. [Re: Americanhindu]

Haha, AH, Vinaire has already explained what I meant.

Besides, only 3 Yugas have been gone of the actual ChaturYuga of this 7th Manvantara (there are 14 in total).

Here's an extract of my own investigation, which I discovered a few years ago:

Hindus have these Yuga systems (I just made up the names for convenience):
1. "Aditya" of 2160 years (a precessional month or 1/12th)
2. Nkshatra of 2700 years (27 x 100 years per Nakshatra)
3. Brhaspatya of 3600 years (60 x 60 years)
4. Paulisha or "Daiva with 4800 Krta, 3600 Treta, 2400 Dvpara (and 1200 Kali) years.

What is the relation between these four? The give the number 10.800 when computed this way:
1. Aditya: 2160 x 5
2. Nkshatra: 2700 x 4
3. Brhaspatya: 3600 x 3
4. Daiva: 4800 + 3600 + 2400

Significance
I. It means that these systems share 10.800 years to make one Yuga Cycle. What we then miss is exactly 2160 years to complete 12.960 years of an Precession Semester or Aditya-Ayana.

II. We know that 3102 BC is the most crucial year in Hindu computations. If the Yuga of 10.800 is added to this number we get 13.902 BC as a fictional start of the Cycle or 16.062 BC with the addition of a 2160 years of the missing Precession Month or Aditya-Msa.
This Cycle is the little Vaivasvata Manvantara?

III. The Barhaspatya and the Daiva have three periods. If we complete them with another period each, then we get these dates:
a. Barhaspatya: 3102 BC - 3600 years gives 498 AD. This is the date calculated by the astronomer Aryabhata. (Many say that he calculated this date, because he lived in that year, but that depends on one of the Shaka Samvats)
b. daiva: 3102 BC - 1200 years (of the missing KaliYuga years) gives 1902 BC. This is roundabout the date of king Vishakhaypa of Avanti and Darshaka of Magadha. And according to the Kalki Purana, this Vishakhaypa was contemporary with Kalki! (Kalki Purana I.1 says that king Vishakhayupa paid homage to Kalki when he was born)

About Manvantaras
I. If we take the 25.920 years and multiply that with 1000 we get 25.920.000 years. Now this is exactly 15 x 1.728.000 years (the number of KrtaYuga: 4800 x 360)
II. If we multiply 4320 (two time 2160) by thousand we get 4.320.000 years, the number of Krta, Treata, Dvapara and KaliYgas together.
If we then multiply 4.320.000 by 71, we get 306.720.000 years, which is one Manvantara. Then if we multiply this with 14, then we get the number 4.294.080.000.

Time out: If we add to the 25.920.000 years the 4.292.080.000 years, we get 4.320.000.000 years or BrahmaDina, which is 1000 x ChaturYuga.

A Brahmahoratra is 2x Brahmadina. A BrahmaVarsha is 360 x Brahmahoratra. A Brahmayus is 100 x BrahmaVarsha:
311.040.000.000.000 years! (Age of a Brahma-Srshti and the same years for a Brahma-Pralaya. Then One Cycle is over)

Note
A cycle of KaliYuga is 1200 x 360 = 432.000, which is 1/10th of a ChaturYuga.
This number can be arrived at differently, through these steps
1. 12.000 x 2 = 24.000 years
2. 24.000 x 14 = 336.000 years ( = 2 x 168.000)
3. we miss 96.000 years (= 2 x 48.000 years)

But I have to confess that I am lousy with figures.

Ishwa
