The information from the RigVeda as given by Thelightbearer02, is totally wrong. Dasyu aren't darkskinned natives. They are Arya, but not belonging to the Puru culture. The Dasyu differ in certain cultural aspects from the Purus. Talageri rightly observed that Dasyu are connected with the priestly functions and the Dsa with the political functions. The Dsa are an Anu subculture and as such the cousins of the Purus.

The word Dsa and Dasyu come from the same wordroot as Dasra, one of the Ashvins (the other is Nsatya). The verbal root das has to do with magical shining.
In the Vedas there's constantly a reference of the struggle between Light and Darkness. The Vedas have little to do with actual history, but historical references were applied to that Light and Darkness and Rtam or Cosmic Order.

The racial references in the Vedic are blunders in translation. But of course in later Post-Vedic times we meet some dubious texts as the recent ManuSmriti is one of them.

You have to make distinctions between philosophical/religious texts and social ones, like the ManuSmriti. Hindus aren't dogmatic and follow the traditions that suits them the best (that's why they have many divergent traditions), which is different in other big religious traditions wherein divergent streams are suppressed.
