Unfortunately I have not much time anymore to be on this forum. So I'll be a little selective with reactions.

Spiritualism is indeed not harmful, if it means being in tune with the Spirit=Brahman (or any name), which is meant by most, I believe.
Even if mechanical (if that mans automatical) it is not harmful. Not understanding but still being in tune is a passive way. Too much understanding is sometimes more "harmful" (=misleading) for the person involved.

The most wonderful thing about Brahma-tva is that you can be very simple (-minded) and still be very much in tune, more than even one who has a clear (logical) understanding, but still failing to integrate that with his total being and becoming(including physical).
Spiritualism is to integrate and balance every aspect of you. And a spiritual being is a very simple being. (not simplistic, haha)

There's another way worship, and that is spiritism: worshipping the spirits of past creatures. (after-life). This is a kind of worship which is on the edge of white and black magic, and not really about the Spirit=Brahman.
Some people are trained in dealing with spirits. Understanding spirits is okay, I think, but it would be a more direct homeward worship when in tune with the One Spirit.

But of course it's anyones own choice to take any course offered.
