The word Hindu comes from Sindhu and Stan from Sthan. The deaspiration process already started in the Panjab region, before the proto-Farsi speaking Iranis immigrated. Then the change from 's' to 'h' must have started somewhere in Panjab (The Bactrian came from the Hapta Hindush or area of Seven rivers in the Panjab, and the Sarasvati was also known in Unadi Kosha of grammarians as Harasvati. Remember also the Old-Hindi word 'solaha' from 'sodaha' and older 'sodasha' = 16) from where the Turvasu Arya groups left for Europe (Greek has also 'h' for 's': hepta for sapta = seven) and Anava Arya groups immigrated to Iran (hapta > haft).

About the deaspiration I remember the word "Gadariya" for (shep)herd, which comes from Gandharika (via Gandhariya/Gaddhariya), the area famous for sheeps and their wool. I believe that the word had once also the meaning of cowherd (with which the shepherds do intermarry: Ahir/Gval with Gadariya).
I wonder whether Gedrosia in Afghanistan was based on this word Gadariya coming from Gandhara. (like Gandhara transplanted to Kandahar)

The Persian knew of Gandhara as Gandara/Gadara, named in their list of conquests.

From another corner: The Greek mythology knows of a Gadeiros, mentioned by Plato in connection with the Pillars of Hercules (equivalent of Krshna). This Gadeiros and Atlas were the first Twin brothers. The words Pillars of Hercules and Gadeiros were transplanted to Spain: Gibraltar and Cadiz (from Gadeiros) from their native home Atlantis.
[ Atlantis or Atlan has a connection with Atala=Shiva. Atala is also a name of a Patala world, or great continents of the 'southern' (mostly bad) hemisphere. Atlantis is surrounded by Oceano.s or the World Sea. By accident the name of Vrtra is Ashayna.h=that which surrounds. Vrtra (coverer) the Asura is known for holding back the Waters. Indra symbolically kills Vrtra and releases the Waters. (may be 'emperor' Varuna (coverer) got his oceanic character after this) Does this imply the Flood, the submerging of Atlantis, the end of the Glacial period?

Gadeiros was called Eumelos in Greek: eu means 'good' and melos mean 'black/dark' (The beautiful dark one = Krshna). The word Gadeiros is connected with herds! (mostly flocks of sheeps). Which other person than Krshna fits into this description?
Another connection is the 'Pillars of Hercules" or the "Dvraka of HariKrshna"? That city is by the way submerged, as many other cities in that area in even remoter times.

Note: This is why I connect not only Greeks, called Yavanas of the Turvasu tribe in the Mahabharata, but also the Abhiras and the tradition of Gopla Krshna the cowherd as Turvasus and not Yadus! Vasudeva Krshna was a Yadu prince.
I also connect the Shakas with the Turvasu tribe. They share names with the Abhiras, like the name endings in *daman (think of Krshna's friend Sudman, and the Shaka king Rudradman), and in *rta (Parikshit in Krshna's days is called Vishnurta, the Shaka dynasty started with Nahapna Kshaharta)
The Turvasus were at home in the Maharashtra-Gujarat-Sindh-Baluchi area some covering areas upto the Panjab, from where the Yavana-Greeks, the Shaka-Scyths, but also the Turushkas (from Turu-shakas, moving to Chinese borders. The mixed-Aryan Tusharas who came back to India, mixed with Turkish tribes were called Turushkas. I wonder whether the Turks are amix of Aryan and Mongol cultures) had their ofshoots to the northwest and west. The rest remained in the subcontinent. All share a pastoral culture. But more has to be investigated.

So, the base of the words in Persian are to be found in (north)western India, especially the Panjab.
