I think with the Bhakti movement you mean the Vaishnava Bhakti movement. The Bhakti movement is older than Ramananda. There were Bhakti Acharyas preceding Ramananda.

The Bhakti movement has its source in the Bhagavata movement of the Vasudevas (Vaishnavas, fused with non-Vaishnava Narayanas), which has its source in the Bhagavata movement of the early post-Vedic Narayanas (non-Vaishnava).

So the revitalized Bhakti movement, starting from the south, had its antecedents in the Bhagavata movement.
