The ugliest form of caste system is unfortunately the one which is focused on and bombastically mentioned in the media. One fact remains, that the social system that is called caste system somehow stubbornly remains to exists up till now. The one powerful way to change this is through reform, and not through abolishing. To reform, one has to understand thoroughly the nature of the most positive and the most ugly variants of the system. Then the reform has to start with responsible people who in the eyes of the people may be sanctified to make the changes on village level. The reform should be done through education (children in schools), panchayats, Yajna-Katha, etc. etc. The only way to have success is to start not on large scales, in areas where changes might be expected more easily. But one needs the cooperation of the whole society. It's a gigantic process. It's perhaps an utopia, but one cannot give up, one has to start any change with having some kind of idealism.
