Vinaire has already explained to you about Brahman and everything, including time evolving = being Brahman. Only the Absolute is eternal unchanging.

I'll only comment on the word 'gap'. The Srshti-Pralaya is an 'endless' repeating cycle of changes. That which is understood by you with 'gap' is nothing more than a part of that cycle.

The information on the Yugas and cycles are from works as Puranas (Vishnu in particular, but all the major Puranas have a section on Manvantaras), Surya Siddhanta, etc. The information is general knowledge for Hindus.
The years are based on the precessional period of the stars in relation to the earth motion, to say it simply. It's a system of time reckoning based on sky observation. A hobby of all the ancient people, a specialised hobby of the Hindus, who have the most elaborate and diverse system.
