In India too the rebirth of Shikhandi is known. That's actually the version that is told. But historically the male and the female must have been two distinct persons, within the same family. Whenever there's a story about reincarnation, then there's a narrative tool used to link events with each other, or to explain something complex. Actually it is not Shikhandi and Chitrangada who must've been the same, but Ulupi and Chitrangada. For both of them appear in the same episode (together with Babhruvahana). Ulupi is a Naga princess and Chitrangada a Manipuri.
